    trying to find where 139 IBGH was located in india 1945

    Jim, from what I can see, it would suggest the IBGH were note mobile, bit static

    BASE HOSPITALS
    Function
    Long-term treatment
    of all kinds.
    Receiving all patients
    not expected to
    recover within 2 and
    later 3 months.

    ADVANCE BASE
    HOSPITALS
    Function
    Definitive treatment
    of all except longterm
    cases and
    treatment of special
    cases, e.g. Head
    Injuries, Gunshot
    Wounds of Femur,
    Maxillo-Facial
    Injuries, Severe Eye
    Injuries, Psychiatric
    Cases, Severe Burns.
    Holding all cases
    expected to be fit for
    discharge within 2
    months (altered in
    1945 after main
    battles to 3 months).
    CORPS MEDICAL
    CENTRE
    Unusually 2 C.C.S.s
    and 2 M.F.T.U.s
    with some special
    units, e.g.
    Ophthalmic Units,
    Head Injury Unit,
    Corps Psychiatrist,
    etc.
    Function
    Major Emergency
    treatment - holding
    all cases expected to
    be fit within 3 weeks

    FIELD
    AMBULANCE
    (A.D.S. sometimes
    split off and forming
    additional link in
    chain).
    Function
    First Aid and
    Emergency
    treatment.

    Actually Namkum, which is east of Ranchi, I believe.

    Am seeking the 28 IGH. I believe this was in Hong Kong and I have found the hospital which was formerly the IGH in Hong Kong, but the '28' prefix is not attached to that hospital. Just wanted to make sure I had the right place. I know my grandfather was admitted there in 1946 but anyone know how I can find the hospital records (do I contact that hospital?)

    28 IGH did indeed go to Hong Kong after the war.
    If you want the War Diaries they are held in The National Archives at Kew under reference WO 177/2201.
