What a cracking photograph. '178' with GHQ bar under is 1 Lines of Communication (Railhead) Company RASC. Were they around Calais ?

Is the lorry a Foden ? These two are not the same but look to be and Foden diesels would have been quite sensible for this type of L of C work. The cab roof is quite military looking, but not as high as the Crossley.

    99% certain It's a bonnetted Scammell Rich, maybe a R6 like this-
    1938 Scammell R6

Truck in the far distance could be a Foden

I think that you're right, Craig. There is a lot of foreshortening on the bonnet but the mudguards do look too long for a forward control.

Very interesting ph, is the car an Austin or Ford Prefect 10 hp? My dad, ex 8 Worcs R told me when he and his section, separated from the bn, were trying to make their way to the coast, they met a column of abandoned 3 tonners loaded with officers mess supplies, all kinds of luxuries so they filled their pouches with what they could carry!

Ok, no real information to go with this one but I’m going to guess it shows Cameronians captured near St Valery sur Somme.

    hi bill
I think that the photo was made in the area of La Bassée, it is a photo from the collection of Rommel and 7 Panzer. It's 1st Bn QOCH.

Thanks Mathieu. I thought you might have a good idea where it was taken. Got it in the mail last week but I’m sure I’ve seen the photo somewhere before - might even have been this thread!

Yes, I would agree. I had a quick scan through the thread last night because I was sure I’d seen a similar photo and landed on that one as well.
