We called here Sunday 12-08-2018. A very good little museum, well worth a visit, a lot of the artefact's have been found from around the old airfield. Third photograph shows a part of the PSP - Pierced Steel Planking. Used on grass runways for support.
Interesting photographs LF I recognise the fire stove, prominent in RAF wartime hut billets such as Padgate which had no other heating. They were called Salamander stoves if I recollect....ideal for making up little toasted snacks which motivated lads to forage and raid coal stocks for adequate heating and if lucky, snacks. PSP and other temporary airfield matting used extensively in Normandy as temporary airfields were laid down for the Allied tactical air forces.French farmers used them, after the airfields moved on to construct fencing....apparently some can still be found in use on farms.
Thank you Harry, The wood cupboard to the side of the stove is actually a 75 gallon drop-tank container. As fitted to the Mustangs.
