Thanks Tim, for showing me around: Algonquin Provincial Park at its very best:

And as if the above wasn't already impressive enough, an everlasting impression was made by the whale of the Loon echoing across the lakes at dusk …

My pleasure. Glad you liked it.
It was only fair after your hospitality in the Rhineland.

The only part missing was seeing one of these.

He looks so peaceful. I hear they are very friendly and not aggressive in the least. ;)

For the most part, yes. Especially when in the water. We have paddled up to within 20 ft of them and they seem unconcerned. A different story in the fall when the bulls are in rutting season. Much more aggressive and less predictable then. They will even attack a train engine. Females can do that to you.

As good a place as any to extend a welcome to Cockfosters to any member visiting London in the near future.

All you have to do is pop your mobile number in my PM box and we can then plan to meet up.

Ron, now I'm wishing I was spending time in London on my trip in June so I could meet you! Unfortunately after arriving at Heathrow we're immediately heading west and south.

I hope some of the forum members take you up on your kind offer.

    Regards,
    Chris

IMG_1968.JPG I had the pleasure today (Sunday 17th June) in getting to meet Ron again, this time at his home in Cockfosters.

It was a great two hours together and listening to Ron recalling his (nearly) 4 years of overseas service from mid 1943 to early 1947 was a privilege indeed.

I hope to get to see Ron again within the next couple of months after my upcoming trip to Sicilia...

    best wishes

Met up last Saturday with Stefan (HA96) who travelled up to Berlin.
Had a great time looking around the remains of the old Humbolt Flak Tower at Gesundbrunner.
We took a look at the Germania exhibition nearby in the old bunker system run by the Berlin Under World Group.
Then lunch followed by a 2pm Tour (M) by the same group. This tour was all about the tunnels used to escape from the East Berlin Sector after the wall went up.
    Well worth the time.
Thanks Stefan for a great 6 hours in Berlin.

    Regards
    Tom

Is that you in the reflection?

Ron, I hope you don't mind me saying, but you do not look your age. I know people twenty years your junior who look older in the face!
