I am doing family research. I have found my G Uncles short service records for the Irish Guards in 1911.

I can roughly translate that he was in court for disertion & service days were removed.

What I’m looking for is advice on how I could fully translate how he was medically fit for service in the August but unfit by the December. What happened in such a short time????

    Any/all help greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

You will struggle to identify the medical reason for his discharge in the absence of his medical papers - Army Form B178. There could be any number of reasons.

He could’ve sustained an injury during his initial training period or developed an illness but it’s anyones guess without his medical forms.

I can only presume that his medical forms have been culled from his file over the years. I have several WW1 era (pre war regular enlistments) relatives files from another regiment in the Brigade of Guards and their contents vary.

My gf file (on Ancestry and FMP) has medical forms with it but the file I obtained from his RHQ contained no medical papers - neither did the file for a gu but the flysheet indicated that his medical papers had been part of a larger file sent to Chelsea Hospital for filing post WW1.

    Steve
