A Red Arrows pilot died after being thrown out of a plane by a type of ejection seat with a known problem, an inquest has heard.
Flt Lt Sean Cunningham was ejected up to 300ft into the air at RAF Scampton and fell rapidly when the main chute of his parachute did not deploy.

I remember when the Canberra entered service at Scampton, there was a groundcrew member killed when the ejector seat operated with the aircraft parked in a hanger.

The problem was that the seat had not been made safe on an after flight check presumably and inadvertently operated when the aircraft was entered for servicing.

    Should be an account somewhere.

Oh dear we had better put a stop to this devolution idea. We will need yet another new design for the tail fin and presumably need two fewer planes since we won't need the blue smoke!

Red Arrows photo wins RAF "image of the year" competition.

A public vote has been used for the first time to choose the winner of an RAF photographic competition.
The collection of pictures, which highlight the force's work at home and abroad, showed "the clear pride of each photographer in their subjects and the service," said Paul Hudson from the RAF Museum.

Engineer in the back seat may indicate an air test.

By all accounts the engineer failed to eject.
    Pilot injured.
Thoughts and prayers for families involved.
Just goes to show that there is always danger involved in flying.

    Regards
