    Has any one found the name James traynor in there searches it' my grandad 2nd motor sqaudron company a 808527

    My Grandad Kevin O’Neill was in the Congo 60,61 and 63. I love hearing his old stories, if anyone can make a connection to him.

    At some point in this entertaining monologue, the Chieftain mentions the armoured cars that weren't mentioned in the film:



    I still prefer the tale of the French tourist in Dublin, though...

    That article mentions an earlier terrible event at Niemba. Some further detail is at:
    Niemba ambush - Wikipedia
    which offers an expanded gist of perceived effects in Ireland. It would be fair and understandable to reflect that Niemba remains prominent in the minds of Irish soldiers today. I can only surmise that it also had a bearing on senior Irish military appraisals and decisions during and after Jadotville.
