Was 467 Bty one of the sub units of 107 LAA Regt RA (time frame 1942-44). If not what was its parent regiment please.

It looks like 467 Bty belonged to 72nd (Middlesex) Searchlight Regiment RA but not absolutely sure.

The below does not answer your question directly, but seems they were formed in Jane 1942 in UK and ended up being disbanded in Malta July 1944

    The Royal Malta Artillery
The hardships and privations suffered by the Maltese AA gunners during the 1940-43 siege were shared with their British counterparts, which consisted of:

32 LAA Regt. Royal Artillery 4 HAA Regt. Royal Artillery
65 LAA Regt. Royal Artillery 7 HAA Regt. Royal Artillery
74 LAA Regt. Royal Artillery 10 HAA Regt. Royal Artillery
    107 LAA Regt. Royal Artillery
    117 LAA Regt. Royal Artillery
    4LAA Regt Royal Marines

107 LAA Regt RA - British & Commonwealth Military Badge Forum
This is the attractive and very sought-after unit sign adopted by 107 LAA Regt RA. The Regiment was formed by the conversion of 14th Bn Royal Fusiliers on 1 Jan 42 and was disbanded on Malta on 30 Jul 44.

    3/11 Regiment, Royal Malta Artillery.
In the latter half of 1943, 107 LAA Regiment RA, which had just arrived from
    the UK joined the Brigade.

Tim - Thank you, the searchlight regiment did have 467 Searchlight Battery but that is another outfit and was in Home Command. Thanks anyway.

TD - useful and helpful with movements I am tracking. There is a diary for 467 LAA Bty so will consider getting it as the 107 Regt info adds up with locations I have (my man was one of 14 RF who was converted overnight in 1942!.)

    Thanks both

Although not the unit in question but as a side interest, here is a location statement for early December 1939 for 35th AA Brigade (part of 5th AA Division) showing a 467 S/L Battery on the second page. Interesting location!

As you say - interesting - just up the road from me. A rare example of shining a light on Porton's activities!

According to J.B.M. Frederick 'Lineage Book of British Land Forces', 467 LAA Bty was formed from the fourth troops of 233, 234 and 277 Bties of 75 LAA Regt, and it was regimented in 75 LAA Regt on 19/2/42.

467 LAA Bty then joined 141 LAA Regt on 10/7/42. It became independent on 27/2/44 and disbanded on 8/9/44. (RHQ 141 LAA Regt disbanded in Gibraltar on 28/4/44, so it seems probable that 467 Bty was also in Gibraltar)

  13. I appreciate anything you can find. My grand dad was in the hospital for a week in the beginning of July 1944 so I’m curious where they were and what they were doing...then when they disbanded, he joined the Lancashire Fusiliers and there’s lots of information on them. Too much actually!

    72nd (Middlesex) Searchlight Regiment, R.A. (T.A.)
    HQ, 465th-467th Btys: Twickenham

The regiment was under command of 47th AA Brigade at the outbreak of war and under 40th AA Brigade in February 1941. On 1 January 1944 one troop of 554th/82nd Battery joined 466th Battery. 501st Battery, which had previously joined, was disbanded on 5 March 1944. On 25 September 1944, RHQ and all batteries were placed into suspended animation at Reepham, Norfolk. The regiment served in the United Kingdom.

    75th Searchlight Regiment, R.A. (Middlesex)(T.A.)
    HQ and 3 Btys: Cowley

The regiment formed part of 38th AA Brigade in September 1939 and in February 1941. It was converted to 73rd Light AA Regiment, R.A. (Middlesex)(T.A.) on 15 February 1941 with 232nd-234th Batteries at Hangar Hill, Ealing. This was renumbered 75th on 26 February. 303rd Battery joined on 9 December 1941 to replace the departing 232nd Battery. 467th Battery served under command from 19 February to 10 July 1942. The regiment landed in Sicily by 15 July 1943 and on 7 August 1943 it had one battery at Cassible and two batteries at Pachino under 62nd AA Brigade. It was used to reinforce 8th AA Brigade in the Taranto-Brindisi area at the end of 1943. It remained there until it was placed in suspended animation on 8 September 1944.

  15. When researching the 467 LAA independent battery,
I believe there is some confusion between the searchlight and the light anti aircraft groups... I know it confused me a few times.
My grand dad was in the 141 LAA of which 467 battery was a part :)

Jeremy - I assume "267" in your last post was a typo??

For clarification, the searchlight battery and then discussion on two searchlight regiments came into this thread with the caveat "not the unit in question". No confusion in my mind at least.

Jeremy. Memory back on track now. My original query was to help my research for a friend whose relative also served in 467 LAA Battery and who moved from Gib with them in March 1944 and left them in October 1944 when he was hospitalised.. I suggested that they should get the war diary that covers the period Jun-Oct 44 Light Anti-Aircraft Batteries : 467 Bty. | The National Archives but I am told they haven't yet done that.
So my suggestion would be the same ie get the war diary (the period Apr/May 44 seems not to be covered but titles are often misleading).
Sorry not to be able to be more helpful.

I found this on 467th Light AA Battery, RA:

    141st Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.A. (T.A.)

    RHQ, 451st, 456th, 466th, 467th
Raised: 10 July 1942 at Chingford, Essex

456th Battery left on 16 July 1943. The regiment arrived in Gibraltar from the United Kingdom on 23 August 1943. It served under 15th Anti-Aircraft Brigade until 19 February 1944. 467th Battery left on 27 February 1944 for overseas. 451st Battery left and 466th Battery was disbanded on Gibraltar on 7 March 1944. The RHQ was disbanded on Gibraltar on 28 March 1944.

Thank you dryan67. The "overseas" was North Africa, 467 acted as an independent unit until disbanded in Oct 44.
