A sincere thanks to those who's generously helped out. I simply cannot express how truly helpful your support is. My plan has always been to create a historical resource that is available in perpetuity.

There is no formal process for donating as yet, I'll see about setting this up tonight once I return from work. I'm on Central Standard Time, so it will be tomorrow GMT at the earliest before I have anything prepared.

However, if one has PayPal they can donate to our email HQ@WW2.ORG and it will come our way. I'd humbly ask that any donations are made in USD $. While I'm sure it's mildly awkward to do this on your end, PayPal makes it surprisingly easy, and it's a incredible cumbersome to juggle a variety of currencies on my end.

I was sent a reminder to renew my membership after I noticed my status had slipped from Patron to Member. I did think at the time I paid some money that it was a sort of "one off", but at least not something requiring an Annual Sub. Can someone clarify for me?

For me being a patron, its not only about supporting the forum, but a way of giving something back, and saying thankyou to all
the members I've corresponded with and the many doors that have been opened, to help me with my research.
(not forgetting Andy grabbing those all important diaries)
I will always be a patron, and quite happy to pay the £20 annualy.(cheap as chips)

    regards......Graham.

Everyone still has full access as Members, so it could be a one-off (not really a sub is it) if that's the preference. I think it's clear from Otto's replies there's no pressure, simply gratitude for contributions towards running costs. As to the term for Patrons, he did mention this in the first post of this thread, (hope it clarifies matters for you):

    Hi !

As a pretty long standing member of this forum (I joined in 2004 and am now in my 94th year) I have always been an aficionada of the long term motives voiced over the years by both Adam & Otto but it is heart warming to see them once again in print:

“A sincere thanks to those who's generously helped out. I simply cannot express how truly helpful your support is. My plan has always been to create a historical resource that is available in perpetuity”

I have always been a firm believer that a person is not truly dead until his or her name is never mentioned again in print and the best example of this can be found in a poem written in the year 1107 by Robert Wace and reproduced below,

    All things to nothingness descend
Grow old and die, then meet their end
Man dies, iron rusts, wood goes decayed
Towers fall, walls crumble, roses fade
Nor long shall any name descend, beyond the grave
Unless 't be found in some clerk's book
It is the pen, that gives immortality to men

What, in my clumsy way, I am trying to say, is that if you wish to be remembered in the years ahead you could do a lot worse than make a contribution towards the upkeep of this splendid WW2 website

I am being left behind by the digital world. I got right to the end of the payment page for Patron but then it asked for a mobile phone number. Of course I don't have one. It was not fooled by one I made up. Perhaps I will borrow one. I am trying (in all senses of the word).

I have also consistently failed to give money to Fold3.

    Mike.

    Later.
Yipee. I am a patron again.

Further thanks to those of you wantonly flinging cash at the old place.
You know who you are. It is appreciated.

Well... this has been on my mind as well. In the first post there is a link to http://ww2talk.com/index.php?account/upgrades which gives a Purchase option of patron status for $33 US/year. Clicking on that took me to PayPal to make that payment.

If you don't want to use PayPal there is other information in the first post of the thread.

This site is a fantastic resource and community and worth investing in.

I don't suppose there's any chance that site patrons could get the ability to hide the ads on the website, is there?

    Excellent call.
Must confess that I'd completely forgotten that was originally part of the plan.
Will be endeavouring to work out settings this evening, so don't be surprised if the entire place bursts into flames.

Worryingly straightforward one click setting... I think.
Patrons, if you refresh your page, You may see that ads have disappeared... probably... worked for test profile anyway...

    Thanks again for the moolah.

There's always one isn't there! I personally - there's the clue - don't mind receiving adverts (especially from people who think I want a new TV when they know very well that I've just bought one from them! Their logic, not mine) if - there's another clue - it brings income by way of click-royaltys to the site. So, if it's significant income......over to you Adam?

The days of ads bringing really good income to smallish sites have passed. Not gonna say it isn't worth having them, but it's not what it was.
Seems only fair to hide that stuff away when people have bunged us something.
