Answering a thread on bomb disposal reminded me of a story, not WW2, but it still makes me smile.
Sometime ago a friend who had been in the RASC as a bomb disposal officer came to work with me. He had been injured removing a car bomb in Cyprus. Having just left the Army his disability pension had to be transferred to the DHSS (or whatever it was then called) necessitating filling in the usual pile of forms.
We sat down to complete the forms.
Q1. What is the nature of the disability? Easy we thought - deaf in left ear, loss of thumb, fingers etc.
Q2. What caused your disability? Easy again - dismantling car bomb.
Q3. When did you first notice your disability? We pondered on a suitable answer and settled on "When I heard the BANG".
