Details of the above loss..... 20 - 21 October 1943 103 Squadron Lancaster III ED881 PM-S Op. Leipzig Took off from Elsham Wolds at 1738 hours. Lost without trace. During the course of 1943 RAF Bomber Command visited Leipzig on 4 occasions. 897 aircraft were dispatched with 748 attacking the target, transport and industry. 1276 tons of HE along with 1268 of incendiary were dropped. 40 aircraft were missing or lost.
Not that it's terribly relevant, but the Metropolitan Police Roll of Honour for WW2 shows only those still serving as police at the time of their death. I just wonder how many others may have been ex Police and thus not commemorated by the Force they left.
yes saw that and checked the Roll of Honour but that was for serving officers at the time. Interesting to see if he was ex police or just joined up even though it was a reserved occupation
