Lancaster III LM715 WS-C was one of 19 aircraft of 9 Sqdn which attacked Nurnberg that night. It took off at 1723, and the squadron ORB just says "Aircraft missing, No messages received." The crew was:

    F/O R. Davies
    Sgt E.M.P. Rice
    Sgt H.V. Ward
    F/S C.D. Richards
    F/S E. Newman
    Sgt R. Marr
    Sgt L. Phillips

F/O Davies was posted to the squadron on 25 August 1944, presumably his crew likewise; they seem to have flown four or five operations (from a cursory shufti at the ORB here).

Incidentally, though flown by W/C Bazin and a different crew, in September 1944 this particular aircraft took part in Operation PARAVANE, the 9 Sqdn and 617 Sqdn attack on the Tirpitz flown from a Russian airfield, and dropped a Tallboy at 1104 hrs from 15000ft. None of the bombs hit the ship, due largely to a smokescreen which obscured visibility (and the inherent difficulty of hitting a target like that).
