Yoy could try (if you haven't already) contacting this site and asking if she appears in any of the journals or perhaps her registration/personal file has a photo of her - Life during Wartime

Hi Silvia, just posting the CWGC link for others to see. I've had a quick search of the British Newspaper Archives, but no photo there unfortunately.

    Casualty

This could be her parents on the 1939 Identification Register, the 2nd entry at the bottom. findmypast.co.uk

  6. Thank you for your kindness, Miss Margaret is just like a sister for me , she' the only woman resting in that cemetery among more than 400 soldiers..I'm a doctor and I can imagine the great sacrifice she did for everyone of us, now and yesterday.
I only would like to think of her with a real face..That's all.Thank you for whatever you'll do for me.

  10. You've been very kind to send me this paper notice, but this is not the person I'm looking for, 'cause Margaret's father was Mr.Thomas Perceval (T.P!).I had already found the same notice, but unfortunately she' not the young woman resting in the British military cemetery of Milan...Thank you so much.

  11. Thank you so much for your answer, unfortunately I already knew all the details you sent me and many others about Miss Fielden's life, but I still haven't found out how she really died.. The Chartered society can't answer me..
    Thank you a lot.

Yes I have posted the info to give forum members more information to assist you.

Your answer will be in obtaining her death certificate.

I have emailed CWGC to see if they can add any further info.

Also the British way of announcing a married couple is to use the mans name followed by surname

    example
    John Smith
    Edith Smith
Would be written as Mr and Ms J Smith using the mans christian name initial J.

So the news paper notice states Dr and Mrs J.P.Fielden
another quirk (possibly British) is that sometimes the person prefers to use their middle name as their first name .

So although the initials in the newspaper cutting are slightly different it would be quite a coincidence that 2 people of the same name died on the same day in the same town particularly whilst in another country.
Also in the newspaper cutting are the initials CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy)
The cause of death was Polio
    However anything is possible

    regards
    Clive

    Hi,

There is an article in a Milan newspaper that gives a little more detail on Margaret's father, Thomas Perceval Fielden.

Milano, il mistero di Margaret: l'unica donna sepolta nel cimitero di guerra

A google translation of the relevant passage:

"Commonwealth War Grave Commission documents, the intergovernmental organization that still has the task of identifying, recording and storing tombs and commemoration sites of Commonwealth Army personnel who died during the First and Second World War, say the essence of her: we know that her parents were called Edith Esther Fielden and Perceval Fielden. Father's name - it's just a suggestion - refers to musician Thomas Perceval Fielden (1883-1974), pianist, music teacher, and director of three schools including the Charterhouse College of Godalming, Margaret's birthplace. He also served, between 1943 and 1945, the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as a sergeant."

Notice they say it's just a suggestion. Thomas P. Fielden also has a Wikipedia entry with more detail. According to Diane's clipping he is titled a Doctor. He was a professor with a considerable reputation in the music field, though there is no mention of a Ph.D. The news clipping may have got his first initial wrong. Infantile paralysis is just another name for polio.

    Regards...

  15. Thank you dear friend, I'm Italian and probably I've got some difficulties with your language, so I regret, but I still can't understand how it's possibile that Thomas Perceval Fielden can be written using the name initial J.P...Anyway, it may be a mistake, I don't know..Thank you a lot, I hope to get some more info about it...Keep in touch!

  16. Dear friend, I know this article very well, because it's mine...I mean, I left an interview to the italian journalist just to get more info about Margaret! There's another article on "Corriere della Sera",on 30 th September that I personally wrote to make everybody know about her, in memory of her death, 29 September 1945...
    I hope you'll read..

  17. Thank you for this info, I had already found it in Ancestry.com. I'm convincing myself that that article about Margaret's death for polio did really talked about her...

A copy of this certificate might supply name of relative: often the person registering the death will give details - name, address and relationship to the deceased.

With the possibility that Margaret (Peggy) Fielden might have had siblings (whose family might have photos) - there are two results (other than hers) for births with Father's surname as Fielden and mother's maiden name as Stapley -

Same information I found Diane, but I was reluctant to post due to the J. P. initials that turned up in the death notice. I guess we can assume the "J" initial was an error made by the newspaper.

I believe her mother died in the St. Albans area, age 75 in 1962.

Margaret's sister Katharine died the same year she was born 1915.

Unfortunately there are two potential marriages for her brother Richard J. Fielden. One marriage to a lady called Hinchliffe in the Surrey area in 1943 or a 1944 marriage to a lady called Westall in the Haslingden district.
