Tricky Not saying that they are definitely one and the same, just suggesting that there are a lot of similarities worthy of further investigation for anyone researching this man: The similarities include; Full name/Date of birth/Birthplace/Height 5’ 3 ½”/Complexion and of course he was a naval man. Discrepancies; Eyes, one says grey other blue, and his service record doesn’t mention his tattoo. There is also an entry in the 1939 Register with the same date of birth.: 38 Margaret Street, Hull (Apartment House) Rawlings, John A, dob 19 Sept 1890, single, Public works contractor’s labourer This would suggest he wasn’t serving at that time. Point of interest from his service record, HMS Yarmouth 14 Apr 1914 to 6 Apr 1918, this ship took part in the Battle of Jutland.
