Hi all, Just joined after getting my dads war records, he was James Wilfrid Halliday, Sussex Yeomanry, 391 Battery, 98th Field Regiment, RA. I also have a copy of 'Surrey and Sussex Yeomanry in the second World War' by Lt Col TB Davis.
My question is: Is there any way to read the official War Diaries of the regiment or do you have to go to Kew?

98 Fd Regt RA were in North Africa then Italy and finally NW Europe. In NW Europe they supported 1 (CAN) Corps.

Welcome. Presume that this is him, although name spelt differently:

    Royal Artillery Attestation
    892395 HALLIDAY, James Wilfred
    98 Fld
    Z (T) Res 6/6/47

Have not found a mention of him in the Casualty Lists, that report wounded/missing/POW/KIA.

Yes that is him, Wilfrid was his middle name not Wilfred. He survived the war, without injury! Thanks, now to plan how to get the complete war diary as I want to leave a record for my children.

Yes Frank, he was in all of those places, I need to get this all recorded for my children as he never spoke to them about the war.

Sussex Yeomanry, 391 Battery, 98th Field Regiment, RA. I am trying to put together a framed display for my kids, I have all of my dads medals and his collar badge but what would his cap badge have been? Would it have been a Royal Artillery cap badge or one for the Sussex Yeomanry?

I have this picture but cant make out the cap badge, was it Sussex Yeomanry or Royal Artillery. I have the collar badge of the Sussex Yeomanry but not the cap badge.
