Did troop ships carry an army staff separate from those being trooped for discipline/admin purposes?

    Hi,

There were likely "conducting officers IC Drafts" aboard troop ships taking reinforcements to Egypt and I've seen mention of officers performing that role for Canadian reinforcements crossing the Atlantic.

Thanks Steve - is there any indication that they had a small staff to hold their hands?

    Hi Max,

I think it’s quite likely as I do recall seeing Canadian service file for an NCO accompanying a draft overseas.

You see regular references to conducting officers in WW1 service files - mostly Canadian but I’ve seen Australians as well. I saw one last week for an officer accompanying an “Italian Draft” sailing from Sydney summer 1918.
