Not seen that, so will have a look.
Yes, keeping the 'public' data separate from CWGC's would be important and, yes, GSE shouldn't be a requirement but until there's an alternative you'll just have to keep on taking the credit!

Found it not very useful. I think there is a RBL version also.

Needs an update. It contains uncorrected scanning errors, unit name changes, other corrections and missing 'new' casualties.
All this can be downloaded as CSV files, but these do not contain the vital record ID, so URL links are not possible.
They are trying to stop page scraping (and there are several million pages to scrape).
So, it's not perfect, but it's also ain't broke! (mostly)

Rather than putting up photographs of the modern headstones (which are available from other sites) why not put up the original grave marker shots they sent out to `every` next of kin after the war? Historically correct and fitting in with the CWGC story?

    Just a thought

Probably failed to negotiate a deal here? It remains a cash cow.

Great idea, this would be a fantastic resource - but these probably no longer exist. But you could ask.

On 7th/8th September 2017, the modest search rate of GSE WW1 increased by 430%
    Not checked WW2 yet.

I would suggest that if any one has any thoughts/suggestions give CWGC a call

Have sent an email to CWGc to see if they can add all the casualty detail on one page including the grave location

Also needs all filters on the search page visible on one page, including the search button. They have increased the number of search buttons, but usually need to scroll to find one, so a pointless change.

If multi page search results, the Next Page buttons should be both at the top and the bottom of the list.

If they must have a Mobile page, it should be in addition to the desktop page. Many websites do this.

    But what do I know?

Um stock answer "we are sorry that you feel that it does not meet your expectations" It was just a query comment

Thank you for your recent comments regarding our new website and search capabilities. We are sorry that you feel that it does not meet your expectations. The new design is very different but it has been based on research, consultation and analysis of previous website usage.

The new website has been designed to take the Commission forward and is built on modern technology that will allow us to provide additional content and capability in the future. As with all new items, it takes a little bit of time and patience to understand the nuances. We appreciate that not everyone will like the new design etc. when they have been familiar with the previous version.

There are some changes in the way searches are made and results are displayed, however the Casualty Database behind the search has not changed, so all data that was previously available is still available.

As to your specific issue with Grave locations, as you pointed out, whilst not apparent in the search results list, they are still visible on the casualty details page. We are looking at adding this field back into the search results in the future.

We will take your comments on board and wish to assure you that the Commission is committed to trying to improve the way members of the public interact with our content and data.

There's an awful lot of "Government speak" in the answer you received, Clive. I wonder who did the "... research, consultation and analysis ..." ?

Yes mate there sure is gov speak
The old website for me whilst out and about on an iphone was fine
Now to get the grave number you have to go into each casualty whereas before all was on one page
Anyway im sure they have many queries complaints about so hope they sort it out

    Sheldrake All over the place....

    Typically I see error 404!

Am I the only person tearing what is left of my hair out with the uselessness of the search engine?

Can anyone access any of the downloadable documents associated with a casualty on the site? I cannot see the concentration papers, or grave registration pages at the moment. Is it just me?

Thanks Mike. I was wondering if they had finally caught up with the fact that I download too many of these for my records and had blocked me off. :D
