BARBER, MARIE Rank: Private Service No: W/91439 Date of Death: 03/06/1944 Regiment/Service: Auxiliary Territorial Service Grave Reference: Sec. H.H. Grave 4946. Cemetery: SHEFFIELD (CITY ROAD) CEMETERY The burial record gives her age as 19 and says she was "Accidentally killed by lorry overturning on Rd Whitby"; it also gives her name as Maria rather than Marie. I looked her up in the death index, but just to confuse matters further that gives her name as Maria BARKER!
Last one... WILKIN, M E Rank: Lance Corporal Service No: W/127423 Date of Death: 07/10/1943 Age: 20 Regiment/Service: Auxiliary Territorial Service, attd. 537 Bty., 155 (M) H.A.A. Regt. Royal Artillery Grave Reference: Sec. A. Gen. Grave 118. Cemetery: SHEFFIELD (ABBEY LANE) CEMETERY Additional Information: Daughter of Ernest Henry and Elsie Wilkin, of Totley. The burial record gives her name as Edna Mary Wilkin and says "Died at Bromley (Air Raid V)". There are entries in both the birth and death index for an "Edna M Wilkin" that seem to fit.

Weird, I have not received any PM - can you try again? If it still doesn't work I shall raise the issue with the powers that be...
Dear Tony I am interested in finding out more about a 19-year-old WAAF, called Amelia Auckland, who is buried in Carleton, Pontefract, very close to my home. I would like to find out more about her, because it is very likely that she was from the same village where I grew up. I can send you a photo of her grave, if you would like. She may have been attached to the RAF camp in Regents Park, London, at the time she died, just three weeks after the surrender of Japan in World War 2. It ought to be possible to find out a lot more about Amelia, or Milly, because her niece appears to be called Sue Ray, nee Auckland, and has been making enquiries about her online. She is member sueray131 on www.ancestry.co.uk. However, I am not a subscriber to ancestry.co.uk, and I do not want to risk loosing £100, if I cannot cancel my free trial subscription for any reason. It’s a lot of money to risk just to get one message to somebody. If you are a subscriber to ancestry.co.uk, or know anybody who is, you could get in touch with Sue Ray and find out a lot more about her auntie. You’ve got Amelia listed as being buried in North Yorkshire, but Carleton, Pontefract, is actually in West Yorkshire (the West Riding in old money). Jon
Hello Jon Very sadly Tony passed away recently Post what you have here and forum members will try to help Regards Clive

Given the above you can try 2 routes: 1. ) obtain a copy of her death cert to find out how she died 2. ) send off to here - Requests for personal data and service records: a detailed guide - GOV.UK for a copt of her service record, a death certificate is not (I believe) required so long as you provide the CWGC information TD
Dear Clive and Dick Thanks for replying so quickly. Amelia's niece appears to be called Sue Ray, nee Auckland. On ancestry.co.uk, she is sueray131. I can't use contact member to contact her, without becoming a member. On this page - Message Boards she is trying to find another WAAF, called Margaret Hodgson, who wrote to her grandparents following Amelia's death. I live very close to the graveyard containing Amelia's headstone, and one thing I don't know is whether Sue still lives in or near Pontefract, and has had a look at the copies of the local paper for September 1945, which would almost certainly have covered her funeral. Regards Jon
hello on 192 there is a S Ray not sure if it who you are looking for S Ray View Details , Hundhill, E Hardwick, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF8 regards Clive
Hi Jon Looking at the Ancestry message boards then searching there is : Name: Margaret Hodgson Mother's Maiden Surname: Gower Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1926 Registration district: Bradford Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding Volume Number: 9b Page Number: 296 Its not difficult to find so not sure why Sue hasnt found it TD
East Hardwick is a stones throw from Carleton......Carleton used to be regarded as a posh village outside of Pontefract ......now continuous development branching off Ackworth Road.
Hi Whilst researching 6th battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, I came across Marguerite Hudson. Sadly Tony has passed but might be of interest to others. On 15th August 50 JU 88's attacked Raf Driffield killing 15 including 5 East Yorkshire who were on airfield protection. Marguerite sadly was killed in this raid as well and was the first WAAF casualty of the war. A number of the raiders were shot down and attacks against other northern airfields were disrupted.
Hello and welcome to the forum John has not been on the forum for 5 years I have sent him a private message showing your interest regards Clive
