  1. Morning all , me again. Amaze me once more by finding details of the location of the Green Howards on the 25th April 1944, the day on which Richard Willis Barnes lost his life he is buried Beach Head War Cemetery , Googled his regt but came up with nothing, probably looking in the wrong place as WW2 is not my sphere as I have posted before. Help really appreciated believe me. Ralph.

Just had a look in the 5th Division history & The Fortress by Raleigh Trevelyan, nothing specfic for 25th April.
There are 6 casulaties for that day on CWGC.
    Will need the war diary.
    I'm sure someone has it.
Trevelyan mentions being in the area of Fossa della Cogna.
They were in the area of the Anzio Beachhead called The Fortress , there are threads on here with it's location.
The Fortress was located in the wadis, the wooded gulleys in this area.

The diary only lists one killed and one wounded on the 25th April. Are those six casualties listed as 1st battalion?

I'll post it up in a bit. Lots of mortaring and counter mortaring. I suspect Synge's History may be better.

David, that book is not on the cheap side. Would it be possible that I could e-mail yourself regarding a few pages? I'm sure that Frank may have a copy of the book?

Ralph, sorry for treading on your plates of meat.
