I am researching the history of my local village and I wanted to know if I could find some photos that date from the period of 1939-1945. The area I am interested in are the forest of Lyons (Forêt de Lyons), Lyons La Forêt, Lisors, Abbaye de Mortemer, Fleury Sur Andelle, La Feuillie, Le Tronquay, La Haye. I know that in 1940 the Germans bombed the forest as the French 10th division with general Weygand were here along with the 10th Hussars. It was then occupied and the area was bombed on several occasions. One the night of 9/10 August 1944 a weapons/fuel depot was bombed near La Haye. There were also several plane crashes in the area of Lancasters ND533 EA-M, ME614 JO-K, Mosquito HK315 FK-H and Halifax LW143 DY-O. I already have photos of the crew of ND533 and HK315 but any other photos of the planes, crash sites, the BLA or any regiments that were in the area would be much appreciated. Also, in Saussay La Campagne there are two members of 15th (Scottish) reconaissance regiment Joseph Denis Roebuck 14218951 and Charles William Young 6475016. If anyone has photos of any of these that would be great!!! If anyone can also help me contact their relatives that would also be a bonus as I (a british ex-pat) am a member of the souvenir Française and we look after the graves of our fallen allied heroes.

No files at NAA for the loss of Mosquito HK315 Can I suggest that you add any info you already have to this thread such as the names & other details of the casualties from this aircraft loss. Also add the photos you do have of the crew of ND533 and HK315 I see one of the uses of this forum and these sorts of posts is that someday a relative / loved one of a casualty will be researching that person and be drawn here by google thanks to the addition of surnames, service numbers etc.

Oldleg I have found 2 family trees that include Charles William Young, although they show him as William Charles Young (?) Oldleg I have sent messages to the owners of the two family trees for William Charles Young - need to wait and see what comes back TD
Tricky Dicky, that is fantastic!!!! Cheers mate! Hopefully as well as giving details on his history they may be able to help me solve a mystery that may be linked to his death. I know that they were attacked on August 29th 1944 and that apparently there was another vehicle which shot off. I am trying to find out if this 'other' vehicle hit a mine killing all on board; I am in London for the next 48 hours and may try to get to Kew archives.
Oldleg I would ramp down your expectations a little. He is mentioned in their tree but they may not be direct descendants of him, even if they know some descendants the information you you are asking for, may not be known by them. Not many people creating these trees go any further than finding out when and where people where born or died. As an example I have seen trees that the creator has accepted a person died in 1950 yet the next piece of info is that they also married in 1956 - facts are not always verified and logical. So I would suggest you carry on your research as if this 'discovery' never happened - sorry to dampen your parade but being realistic about what may be the result. TD
TD, that is exactly what I was going to do. I just appreciate your help or any help that anyone is giving for this matter.
Dave MacFadyen is in fact not Australian, he was born in 1915 in Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland. His family immigrated in 1928 when he was 13. https://www.facebook.com/Lesherostombealyonslaforet/photos/pb.774011342609012.-2207520000.1451598753./1061479950528815/?type=3&theater
Oldleg I have had a response from the family tree originator that includes William Charles Young. He is attempting to contact living relatives and hopes to let me know something within a few days (probably more like a week or two). There are more family details he has sent me that I can PM you with, if you wish, but am reluctant to post them in a general forum, especially as he has kept his tree 'private' - at least at the moment. TD
Oldleg A reply from the tree originator below which tallies with some info we have already but worth noting here as it includes his rank: " I can confirm that WCY [William Charles Young] in my tree is the correct one and it is him who's details are correct as below: Rank : Sgt - Service Number 647016 - Regt :Reconnaissance corps.(attached as part of the 15th Scottish Regt if the findings are correct?)" Will update as further info comes to light TD edited to add: I think his service number is 6475016 as in post #1 and CWGC details
Hi I already have worked on WCY If you can access this link below, You will know all, if you can't, contact me Message Boards And if you find a member of JD Roebuck...
Hi ptibel, There are some details on that message board that members on here would very much appreciate seeing and reading, it might be worthwhile copying them across to here, as they will add very nicely to this thread. For example: Scottish Lion On Patrol Ch 9 and Quote "It's probably the last picture of WC Young and JD Roebuck, when they went through the town I live in." Unquote TD
It's been a while since anyone posted on this thread, but I've just come across it, so I'm hoping you'll still reply: I'm researching my mothers family tree, Beryl Allford ( nee: Roebuck), Joseph Dennis Roebuck was her brother. Any more info on the fate of WC Young and JD Roebuck would be gratefully appreciated, especially photographs.
Ruth, thank you for posting on this thread. I live not far from where the incident took place (about 5 Kms away) and would be interested to speak to you more about Mr Roebuck. If you PM me your email address we can speak that way.
