    Looks like it may be a dismounted vehicle or AA mg. I wonder what the ammunition box colour is and why (given the colour of the a/c)?

    I agree, not a good idea. I sincerely hope that the gunner is so far forward to be in the photo - shouldering the beast would need a butt and revised trigger. Certainly not a 'point target weapon'.

    It is a dismounted vehicle Vickers, from the Lanchester in the background of the picture. It's part of a series of pictures of the training here's two more:

    The shame - how many times have I seen that picture and not noticed that?
    Or I have, then forgot, which is probably even more worrying...
