    Dear Forum members,

I do realise that this is going to be difficult, but I am looking for some advice on getting a photograph of the headstone of Sgt. David Taylor Adams (details below).

I have obtained many headstone photos in the past, some from helpful volunteers (which have come free of charge), and some from the many specialist websites (some of which have made a small charge).

I did email the Ghana High Commission in Scotland a while ago, but have received no reply.

I can find no record of this cemetery on any of the websites, and I wonder if anyone has any ideas?

    Name: ADAMS, DAVID TAYLOR
    Initials: D. T.
    Nationality: United Kingdom
    Rank: Sergeant
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
    Unit: 200 Squadron
    Age: 20
    Date of Death: 07/01/1943
    Service No: 1067899
Additional information: Son of Mr and Mrs D. T. Adams, 10 Keir Street, Bridgend, Perth.
    Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
    Grave/Memorial Reference: Grave 33
Cemetery: TAKORADI EUROPEAN PUBLIC CEMETERY, GHANA.

    Many thanks,
    Dave

    Clive,

Thanks very much for the advice. It never occurred to me, but it seems a sensible thing to do.

    Cheers,

Not sure that you really meant that you could find no record of the cemetery, but just in case:
    Cemetery details
Or put this into any online map site:

It might be worth contacting these people:

It looks like they have some photos of Takoradi, but Adams is not mentioned, perhaps they have a local who could help?

Edit: sorry Tricky, missed your post!

    Thanks TD.

I have sent a request to CWGC. Don't know what I'll get back, but worth a try.

    TD and Tony,

Apologies, badly worded post, which has confused the issue. I should have said that the cemetery isn't on the normal websites which supply headstone photos.

I have sent an email to CWGC, and will also try southafricanwargraves. You never know.

    Cheers,
    Dave

My link to Takoradi may not have worked properly, try this and you should see the graves they do have photos for:

    bamboo43 and Tony56,

Thanks for your replies. I have just sent an email to the southafricanwargraves, but I have received a failure notice. Not sure why, will try again tomorrow.

I will try TWGPP as well, just in case. I have had a lot of dealings with them in the past, and they have been really helpful. Although my man isn't on their database, you never know, they might be able to help.

Many thanks to everyone for the advice.

I am posting this update, just in case anyone would like to know what is happening.

I have received a reply from the CWGC, who have said that they will get someone to take a photograph for me, the next time the cemetery is visited by one of their staff.

They did say that it may take some time, but I am more than happy to wait.

Thanks to everyone for your help and advice.
