    Hello Gents,
I am trying to piece together what happened to my Great Uncle, who was in the 77th and came from Greenock, he was Major RW Fulton,Capt. He was killed in Tunisia on the 12th of April and is buried in Djebel Rmel. I was really pleased to see that he was mentioned in an ealier post as having got of the beaches on Dunkirk and know that as a TA unit they had guns from WWI. He never got married, so there was nobody to remember him and sadly I have no photos of him or real detail about his war or the 77th other than a mention in an old book on the 4th Division. I plan next year to visit his grave a lay some flowers, to make sure he is not forgotten, but would like to know more about him, the people he served with and the engagement on the 12th of April in which he was killed, I believe he was a forward observer and got hit by a motar round along with another officer.
Hope this finds you all well,
    Sandy

Hello, I'm new on here and I'm looking for information about my granfather who was killed at the age of 34,

The only information I have is as follows; Gunner James McKINNON Serial Number 792672 of the 77th Field Regiment.. Royal Artillery... (from Greenock, so I believe he was in the 305th)

Killed between the 28th May- 2nd June 1940 at Dunkirk.

There is no grave stone for him as a body was never found but his name is on a memorial column at Dunkirk.

This is the only information I have on him, his daughter (my mother) was only 5 when he was killed. It would be fantastic to learn more about him and what may of happened to him. I would be very gratefull for any information you have, no matter how small.

With the very best of regards,
    Gord

Recently my partner’s uncle died in Sussex. His full name was Henry Gordon Somerville Rogers – known as Gordon.

He served in the 77th Highland Field Regiment of the Royal Artillery in the war and spent some time in North Africa with 25 pounder guns.

When we cleared his house we came across a map relating to the Tunisian campaign – a photo is attached but I’m afraid it is not very clear.

We would like to find a suitable home for this map if possible – it is framed and in reasonable condition. It is marked in the corner “R N Black 1966 – from original by J V Mackay 1964”.

We also have some photos of his comrades taken at various times in the war and also some amusing anecdotes recorded by him in his self-penned life story.

I would stress that we are not seeking payment for this map – we simply want it to go where it will be appreciated.

My father was also an officer in 305 (greenock) battery & followed the same route through the war . He ended up in Crete during the civil war. He was demobbed early in 1946. He never talked about his career in the RA, but did mention shelling Monte Cassino. I found out more at his last Army reunion, when he was ordered off the beach at Dunkirk by Sir William Denholm & Sir william Pike. He died in 1983 aged 74, He was Major S E Terras p/91132. I recently got his war records for my genealogy history. I have many photos of his campaign. in N Africa Italy & Greece. Unfortunately I don't know who his companions are.

    Hi Ian
I'm afraid I haven't been on the forum for some time so have only just seen your post.
Hope you've managed to find a suitable home for the map.
If I'm correct, it looks like your partner's uncle joined the Regiment on 7th August 1941 if that's any help.
I'd be interested to see any photos if you are able to upload them plus I'm also interested in the anecdotes.
    Kind regards
    Claudette

    Claudette.

If you are interested in seeing what your father got up to in 77 Fd Regt RA in support of 4 BR Inf Div, do get in touch.

I am taking a group to The Gothic Line at Rimini on 19-22 Apr 18 and to Monte Cassino on 17-20 May 18. The Div played a huge part in both events.

    Regards

I know this is a long shot. I work at the McLean museum in Greenock. Did you find a home for this?

    Hi, George.

By any chance did your father mention a Thomas/Tom McCarron in his letters?
Thomas was my father and was in the same Battery.
He finished the war as a BQMS.

    Regards,
    Denise.

I am taking a group out to Cassino in May 24 to look at 4 Infantry Division’s involvement in the massive Battle of Cassino - May 24 is the 80th Anniversary of this epic battle.

If this grabs you and you want to see where your father was during the battle, do get in touch.

    Regards

    Frank
