A lot of photos were lost in the transformation to the new site. Maybe you might like to re upload the photos that are lost in the posts you made. I had to rebuild a lot of my posts as did many others.

    Cheers

    Hello,
My Uncle, Trooper William James Chidley was taken that morning of the 24th as we'll aboard the Derrycunihy.
My mother never knew what became of her brother after that day, as far as being honoured. But thanks to members of this site we have found his name on the Bayeux Memorial along with some other info.
I am now looking for pictures of his regiment, and other info. I will post some pictures of him in the next week.
    Thanks to everyone,

Had 2 other Uncle's (Williams Brother's) serve as well, both made it home eventually after the war. My father served the Royal Navy on a Minesweeper.
    God Bless

Rejoining this topic as I'm going to try and start collating the bits and pieces I have about my Grandad (Trooper Oliver Young) during the war.

I'll try and get some pictures from my Nan and Uncle to post up here. I have a copy of his service records but need to try and decipher them!

    Thanks Lesley.

I know small pieces about my Grandad during the war (he survived the sinking of the Derrycunihy and was in an armoured car convoy that ran into land mines but he made it out where others were not so lucky.

Service records attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thought you may all be interested in seeing a newspaper article that my Grandad wrote for his local paper. It's from the July 5th, 2002 edition of the Romford Recorder.

I've also attached separate files of the pictures from the article. I'm afraid I don't know as yet (my Nan may be able to enlighten me) who the other men in the image are though. My Grandad is far left.

Thank you Steve for posting the article and the photos.

Is there any particular query you have on your Grandfather's service records I can help with? Any abbreviations you don't understand?

To be honest I've not looked through his service records properly yet, but I will do over the next week, and I'll post again with anything I don't understand! Thank you all.

    Hi,
My Grandad, Lance Corporal Leonard Charles Smith of the 43rd Reconnaissance Regiment, was one of the missing after the ship was mined. My Dad has spent years gathering information, letters etc, but the one thing he is missing is possibly hearing from anyone that may have known his Dad. I was hoping/wondering if there may be anyone still that could share any information, memories etc to help my Dad fill that gap - there seems to have been a large void in the family in the past to help him get to know his own Dad, which has blighted his life. My Dad was born a week before the ship went down and so never had the chance to meet him, which has always affected him greatly.
I hope someone may be able to help.
    My email is ssmith146@aol.com
    Thanks
    Stewart Smith
