I'm sure most are you are well-aware of the portee 2-pdr anti-tank gun/truck combinations. But what about a portee light tank and a portee 25-pdr gun? Found these on my harddrive. I thought they may interest someone.
Hi Owen, I know nothing about trucks!!!!! The text at the link you posted says they are unsure about whether that was the LRDG portee or another. It writes of 'White' trucks whereas the documents I found specify 'Mack'. If they are not one and the same truck, then that website has it's answer. Also, it writes of an M3 Stuart tank while the documents specify a Light Tank VI. Interesting project for someone.
that's why I said 'a portee' instead of 'the portee'. I know it's not the same one as in your document.
LRDG Artillery Another page on the LRDG Artillery section The portee is also discussed in this thread: "Morris-Commercial CDSW 25-pdr portee" Morris-Commercial CDSW 25-pdr portee - MLU FORUM which includes the following images : Given the info in the thread and the background it appears they both may have been taken at "4 base ord workshops on 5th November 1941" and feature a Mack truck Also comes in kit form : Mack NR Portee avec canon de 25 pouces au 1/48ème (Asam Models) -
HyperWar: East African and Abyssinian Campaigns [Chapter 23] As can be seen the idea of porteed light tanks was used operationally elsewhere though they were a dead end for the LRDG.
