DOBSON, SQUIRE Rank: Private Service No: 4622941 Date of Death: 10/06/1944 Age: 30 Regiment/Service: Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) 2nd Bn. Grave Reference: 11. B. 3A. Cemetery: KOHIMA WAR CEMETERY
When I looked at this when first posted, that was my question, too... Also the reference to him as "J" Dobson suggests a source of knowledge we don't have access to. Certainly it was an extremely strenuous, if not terrifying ordeal to trek 100 of miles through dense jungle never knowing if a Jap ambush was about to be sprung, but.... suicide? I think this seems to be his Birth details Name: Squire Dobson. Mother's Maiden Name: Price. Registration Year: 1914. Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec Registration district: Leeds, Yorkshire West Riding. Volume: 9b. Page: 575
From the message form it seems 728732 is the map reference of the location where he was initially buried. Later his mortal remains must have shifted to the present Cemetery. Found this in CWGC site. The burial at the present location seems done/ completed on 17th Nov, 1957.
Are you able to say where S. Dobson was initially buried? RE. Map reference 728732. My map reading skills are hopeless. I would appreciate any help. Thank you. Veronica.
My dad made comments in his notes about suicide attempts that some made, or to try and get flown out...
