As I have previously mentioned on this forum , I come from a large family and between us we have notched up quite a few years.

A few days ago I met up with my lovely sister Gertie, aged some 96 years young and her daughter had brought me some newspaper cuttings that I had never seen before that told a brilliantly evocative story of a meeting in WW2.

The newspaper article was printed in 1995 on the 50th anniversary of the end of WW2.

I will let the pics explain the story.

    Enjoy !

    Ron

Giving this thread a bump simply because an item in today's press reminded me of a much loved sister who is shortly coming up to her 98th Birthday !

Lovely story and pictures Ron. Best wishes to Gertie for her up coming birthday.

I've also recently received some unexpected photographs. I managed to track down the son of the lady who was a witness at my aunts wedding in 1948. I had hoped they may have had a picture of the wedding day but unfortunately not. But I was surprised when he sent through a picture of my aunt probably in her teens (the earliest picture I have ever seen of her) and he also sent one in which she appears to be in an Auxilliary Territorial Service uniform (a service we were unaware she served in).

We only had a picture of my aunt in Land Army uniform and then another bolt out of the blue came when he sent me a picture of my own father with the BAOR from 1946! I cannot stop looking at them. They are very precious to me.

Giving this thread a bump because I have only just come across a pic on the internet of my dear sister at her 100th Birthday Party.
Pleased to see that I must have caught the same shot on my own camera !
