Finally, my book is published. Some time ago I put the diaries here in a crude form as a blog. Since then I have been able to fill in missing words , correct place name spellings and people's names. I have added an account of what happened to the 1st battalion Lancashire Fusiliers in 1944 and a short chapter about the IFBU in 1945 in Burma. There are maps and photos and an index of people's names. Plus of course acknowledgements to those who have helped me in so many ways There will be a kindle version in due course, but probably without the visuals. If anyone who has helped me would like a free PDF version, please let me know. ( You know who you are!) Here is the link to my book publishing website, which will link to lulu.com....in the near future it will be on Amazon too. http://delacuesta.wix.com/familyhistorybooks
I will second what Steve said, and add that it is great to see the fruit of your labour.... from a post to a very interesting thread that....then produced a book I commend your research and determination, all the best Jason.
Thanks HC...follow the link which eventually will take you to Lulu.com....in the future it will be on Amazon. But as I said, free PDFs to people like you who have helped so much.
Also as you know, it's actually mostly written by my Dad with some additions by me. I may be getting some copies to sell to local British legion or Help for heroes groups here....we will see!
Thank you kindly Jason . It has been amazing to get so much help from so many people on here....after several false starts in the wrong regiments it was through members here I was able to pin down what happened later. A big thank you to all of you.
Well Done, I shall be after a copy. Much better to read it as a book I think and it looked well worth a read from the sections you published on this web site. Publishing will help many people fill in gaps in the years to come.
Thanks Sylvia, Although I had meant to time the launch on Amazon and kindle with VJ Day, they went up quicker than I planned , so it is now available at Amazon.co.uk and .com. Both as a paperback....same price as Lulu but no postal charges, and as a kindle. The photos and maps are there but less easy to see on the kindle version. Nb...the diaries stopped before the major actions but I have written the chapters showing what happened to the Lanc Fus afterwards and a chapter about the IFBU in 45.
