I have found some interesting pictures amongst my late fathers raf posessions from ww2 he was a mechanic and was in france belgium and germany -

amonsts the pictures i have found one showing two soldiers? With their arms raised and kneeling on the grass like they are being taken prisoner or something - they are wearing what appears to be either knotted white handkercieves on theri heads or white berets.

One is wearing what looks like dark clothing the other hasnt got a shirt but a name tag round his neck -

what puzzles me is that in all the other picures showing my fahter and his mates they are not wearing the id tags round theri necks sodid the raf not have them ?

I thought that they might be just taking pictures of each other and larking around as most were taken towards the end of the war - the two guys being taken prisoner have happy faces and one has gicarette in his mouth - so would they be germans happy at being taken prisoner ?

My father did tell me that he looked after a yugoslavian who had escaped from a the germans -

any clues would be appriciated i can upload the pics but not sure about if they are ok to post as i dont want to offend any regiment

    thanks

Best is to post them, so they can be looked at to see, what they are, and if they are indeed German

Andrew, unless you think the photos are in some way distasteful I don't think there is much risk of a regiment being offended. Post away!

yes thats what i thought too but they are wearing tags - neither my father or his mates are wearing them in the other pictures so wasnt sure why -

they were bare chested on the other pics but maybe becasue the tags would get caoght up in equipment or somehting -

he also refused to wear his careline emergency tag when he was old !
