    Hi all

I’m trying to find some information for my friend about his Grandfather. His name was Joseph Appleyard and he was born in 1920, died 2002. He won the Burma Star.

I’m afraid that is all I know. Can anyone provide any further details on his service please, short of ordering the service records, which I will suggest.

    Thanks

    James

Can I assume he’d have won more than just the Burma Star please?

He would have been awarded it , he didn't win it.
Have a look here to see what else he may have been entitled too.
    Medals: campaigns, descriptions and eligibility

You could ask the medal office what he was awarded.

Medals office will not search an entitlement without the service records now . :omg:

A mates family had two medal boxes belonging to two uncles (Brothers) the contents of both boxes were poured out by the families children leaving a pile of
    2- 39-45 Stars
    2-War Medals
    1-Defence Medal
    1-Burma Star
    1-Africa Star

The family asked the Medals Office for the details of one brother, logic being the other medals were that of his brother. After an encouraging email promising to look into it a second email was received stating they needed proof of death and ideally the service record together with proof of kinship. Luckily the award slips were (unknown to the family) in the boxes so they were able to separate the groups back into their original (named )Boxes.
