Hi trying to find information on Graeme Gilchrist R302976 was pow at Marlag and Milag Nord any info greatly appreciated
Is there a list of merchant seamen taken prisoner looking for information on Graeme Gilchrist R302976 Believed to be at Marlag and Milag Nord any help greatly appreciated
I have lists of all MN prisoners of war at Milag Nord - he is not mentioned. May I ask what information you have that states this? He has a Seaman's Pouch and medal file held at Kew that you are probably aware of but I also notice that there is no PoW file held in BT 373. Regards Hugh
Hugh he was awarded the 39-45 star and war medal only and on the 1973 medal award slip it is written on the reverse Marlag and Milag nord I will find it and attach it
These are the documents issue slip for the medals issued in 1973 with the name of the POW camp on the reverse medal slip from the SOS for Trade and industry (not seen this type before) issue slip for Ribbons from 1946
James, I still can't find him but the records are genuine. The reverse of his CRS102 states he was in Milag N. from 1942-1945. The problem with official MN pow records is that only those who were still prisoners when liberated in 1945 are shown on those lists. I can only suggest that he may have been repatriated back home earlier in 1945 so doesn't appear on the lists. I would suggest you obtain the pouch held in BT 372/692/163 which may give you more information and hopefully the name of his ship. Regards Hugh
Hi Hugh I have is pouch but no ships listed, it has a couple of ID cards and some slips but no ships most of the stuff is dated 1950’s
Hi James, Some pouches are hit or miss unfortunately. Are you sure there are no ships mentioned they could be in the form of official numbers? As he continued at sea into the 50's, he will have a CRS 10 at Kew in piece BT 382/646. CRS 10 is his actual service record and details service from Jan, 1941 until leaving the service. This should include a listing of ships with their dates and ports of engagement and discharge amongst other things. Not easy to get hold of as they are held in a file with up to 60 other names so best viewed by visit to Kew or via a researcher. Regards Hugh
