There is something on this over here: RHINE CROSSING 1945: The Rees bridgehead (30 Corps in operation 'Turnscrew') I do not know if the document I posted is the official War Diary. Where did you get the information on the wounded, Mark?
On the list of wounded on on 24th March and saw my dad Bernard Newsham's name. I didn't know he had been injured and this is completely new information. I knew he was injured after D-Day but not later on. Can I ask where this information is from as I would love to find out more information. View attachment 242406 [/QUOTE]
jacksdad - the Staffordshires were the first tanks to arrive in de bridgehead across the Rhine at Rees. The Sherman DDs 'swam' across the dark river during the night of 23/24 March 1945 to support the infantry of the 51st Highland Division that had gained a first foothold on the opposite bank. The tanks and infantry had to fight hard for several days (and nights) to expand the bridgehead. For more details of the Staffordshire see the link I mentioned above: RHINE CROSSING 1945: The Rees bridgehead (30 Corps in operation 'Turnscrew')
Thank you guys for this info its been really helpful in understanding what happened to my dad during the war as he died when I was really young and never got the chance to talk to him about it.
