His records say wounded in western wester Egypt and I think this is when he lost his eye. Many thanks.

Update: I have since found out that the Christmas cards my grandfather received after leaving the army were from Field Marshall Jan Smuts.

My father has also told me that my grandfather's older brother Sidney also served with him in the same unit but I can't find any trace. Any ideas where I might start to look?

    Thanks

Hi I'm waiting on several sets of army records including both of my grandfather's brothers, William and Sidney and my husband's grandfather's brother, Clifford but as you will know the wait is quite a while.
I just wanted to be trying something whilst I'm waiting.

His name is Sidney Barker born 6 July 1913 in Cheadle, Staffordshire. My dad remembers him recalling many stories of being in the desert with his brother during the war.

So I'm just trying to find out something for my dad.

    Thanks

Yes, that would him. Just trying to find out if he was ever in the same unit as my grandfather, his brother.

Best way to find out would be to send off for his service records
