    Hi ~A,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

I've tried Ctrl-V, and that doesn't seem to work either. I'm not sure what Ctrl-V is supposed to do. Is it supposed to paste from the clipboard?

When I tried searching for 'Paste' and 'Posting', I couldn't find any help as 100's of topics was returned, so good luck with your attempt to merge them !

    Hi dbf,

Thanks for reply. The 'light-switch' and 'right-click', 'Paste' worked.

    All the best

I have tried the ctrl v solution to no avail and in fact resorted to typing in the link, had it highlighted only to have it go right back to ww2talk.com... about a year ago I gave up trying to post, after failing to get a link to an obit for a local veteran. (so if you wonder where I went there's your answer (; ). Then late last fall I took another swing and all was good again. now tried to do some posting with the results mentioned above.
I'm no genius on this stuff but I don't think its me.

    Hi Matt

Which browser are you using - if its IE then suggest you change, maybe try Googlechrome, or A N Other. I have had the same problem previously, changed browser and all was OK.

I was using internet explorer but did switch to firefox for a while then back to IE therefore you are probably on to it because it seems coincidental that EI is in fact the problem. I shall switch again to see if the problem again disappears again.
    Thanks for the info

Just to add a further confirmation that there are problems with copy & paste from Word if you are using Internet Explorer. I have just done this successfully using Comodo Dragon after having spent several days trying to paste some text into a thread whilst using I.E.

I know nothing of such things but I do know I use Google Chrome and find it easy and problem free. As you know I have uploaded large amounts by simply copying in Word and pressing ctrl V.

A friendly, but expensive, technician installed Google Chrome when I got fed up with IE 5 years ago.

    Mike.

Gosh. Did I just give advise on technical matters. I must go and lie down.

The problem looks to lie with IPB, who make this software.
From my interpretation of their explanation/s, they use an editor that is completely compliant with the latest web standards, but some browsers, IE in particular, don't follow those modern web standards very well.
It's immensely frustrating, as they like to explain things, but never seem too keen on actually fixing them for the average user, or explaining stuff in a way that amateur admins can do much about. Feels like the corporate or genuine techie client is their main target.

I know that Internet Explorer is technically dead in the water, being replaced in the Microsoft world by Edge, and superseded by other more modern browsers, but it's slightly odd to ignore that it's still in such widespread use.
Part of me agrees with them that there comes a point when people have to choose the modern standards, but it is, after all, just a text editor - why it should really have any issues at all is beyond me, being such a core part of a forum.

It's a part of why we might currently be looking at this software while going 'hmmmmm', but as yet we have no idea if or when it might be fixed.

In many ways it's an amazing thing. Some bits really very very good indeed, but it's never felt quite as user-friendly as it should.
We'll see. I will say no more than things are being considered, and that any timescale for possible changes would be long, it being rather more expensive than one might think to move massive databases about.

A rather nebulous and probably unhelpful answer, I'm afraid, but hopefully with a hint of reassurance that anyone frustrated by this cut and paste thing is not alone.

(Pasting from Word and other word processors is possibly a different issue to the basic c&p one, though. Documents from them can have a variety of invisible formatting marks that can confuse other text editors. The best thing with such documents is either to run them through a web-based format stripper, or add the whole document file as an attachment.)

    He's bang on, TD.
Even Microsoft don't think using IE is a terribly good idea any more, but their reasons are quite possibly beyond the purely technical...

Oops *I have come over all geeky again. I have just received a message saying that Internet Explorer is closing down in January and I should find a new browser. I did that five years ago.
