Thanks for that Clive, the list only contains what he was wearing and items in his pockets (pennies, halfpennies, ring etc). I just wondered if there was a way of finding out what injuries were sustained. They were both removal men, and their removal van was destroyed. My grandmother had to pay £5 to have it towed away. I didn't know if perhaps they were taken to a hospital first, or what happened immediately after the explosion.

Just seen this. The Dockerill men were killed outright, and taken to Warner Street Mortuary. There they were assigned a number (448/23 and 448/24) and their belongings searched to identify them. The Metropolitan Police would then contact relatives, who would identify the bodies (where injuries were deemed to acceptable to be viewed) and receive any possessions.

Following an identification, the Council would then select an undertaker to remove the bodies for burial.

The council then informed the Imperial War Graves Commission of their details. This included the location of their burial. Sadly, the IWGC Civilian War Deaths Committee chose not to publish the burial location. Even worse, IMHO, the CWGC later destroyed the paperwork relating to Civilian burials.

    Dear Pete,

I got your details from a thread started back in 2013 between Clive(CL1) and Tony(Tonym) & hope you don't mind me contacting you.

I was wondering if you could tell me where I can now view your database 'Civilians killed & wounded in London'?' Also although I appreciate it says civilians can you tell me if it includes service personnel on leave at time of injury(to the best of your knowledge)? I am specifically looking at doodlebug attack in early hours of 23/08/1944 in the New Southgate/White City area, particularly Blaxland House where my grandparents & aunt were killed & injured(prior to passing). My grandfather & aunt were both home on leave from the RN at the time & I'm looking for any info available for them & my grandmother. But I would also like to know how many others suffered injury & loss from the same incident.

Can I just say thank you for all the work you have done in compiling the databases, it truly is a magnificent undertaking & as from my own experience being able to find answers from those sad events does help.

    Kindest regards

    Michelle

Hello Michelle it might be an idea to send a private message to Pete

also you can use Geoffs search engine Geoff's 1939-47 Search Engine to locate casualties.
    Plus CWGC Homepage
If a member of the armed forces was killed during an air aid they would be commemorated on the CWGC website
If you post your query here WREN Ellen Saunders & parents we will try to assist you.

    Regards
    Clive

Hi Clive, thank you for your response. I had originally planned to send a private message to Pete, but alas my tech-ignorance means I couldn't see how to do it. I was just after the additional data Pete's database seems to offer, e.g. where bodies taken, injuries, undertakers, who identified bodies. I appreciate he has closed this enquiry opportunity and that's fine I'm happy to pat to access it but I was struggling to locate the finished database.

Thanks again for any assistance, all of you do a marvellous job with this site & all the connected databases etc.

    Kindest regards,

    Michelle

"London" is an ambiguous term - London County Council area, Metropolitan Police area, Greater London Assembly area, London postal districts - what have you covered?

I agree London is ambiguous. Sorry. With very few exceptions, it covers the area of the current M25 and within. So there are small areas of Middlesex, Surrey, Kent and Essex covered - as well as London. It is the area covered by the Metropolitan Police during the War.

I will contact the publisher about this database. It has been dragging on for far too long. My apologies.

*BUMP* Anyone know what happened to the much-touted V2/Civilian casualties database that I think Pete Wood was working on and was mentioned on here a few years ago now? It was a pinned post but disappeared. Will this database ever see light? Thanks.

I have been off the radar for a while. Sorry. The publishers decided not to go with my database, as they had more pressing projects. I was also in discussions with Ancestry and FindMyPast, but correspondence dropped away.

I am considering private publishing. I have every single Greater London civilian casualty - wounded and killed. I also have all the London Fire Brigade records. Plus I have mapped the location of every single V1 and V2 that was lauched at the UK. It would help, I am sure, a lot of people researching air raids and casualties.

If anyone has contacts with publishers, or knows someone at Ancestry or FindMyPast, please get in touch. I would like to do something with this info, which took me years to collate and transcribe.

Pete what format do you have the documentation in.
perhaps it is possible to publish a dvd in the basic format?

Have you tried Wingleader books? They said they were going to do a series of books that covered all the V1 & V2 strikes:

WingLeader - Aviation Books and Collectables

Alternatively Sabrestorm publish a lot of WW2 Home Front books:

    Sabrestorm Publishing – Books

Your info is too important to the nation to just gather dust.

Gentlemen, thank you for your kind words and suggestions. Your posts spurred me on - and I am back in contact (today) with Paul Nixon at FMP. Just reading his response now and it looks as though this data has found a new home with FMP. The only fly in the ointment is FMP's wish for exclusive rights, which I completely understand (but need to think about). I will let you know if/when a deal is done and the likely publishing date.
