1 R. Berks were part of 6th Infantry Brigade in 2nd Infantry Division. The HQ 2 Div diary does not mention them much, other than that they were close to Merville. Much communication between Division and the front line had been lost by 27th May. Despite one or two recent book titles, if any division was truly sacrificed to allow the evacuation of the BEF then it was probably 2 Div. They were moved south and positioned to absorb the full force of the German advance towards Dunkirk. IMG_0701.JPG IMG_0702.JPG IMG_0699.JPG IMG_0700.JPG

A few more snippets from 208 Field Company RE diary. There is nothing specific but they were attached to 6th Infantry Brigade with instructions to destroy the bridges at Merville once as much allied transport as possible had crossed. 1 R. Berks are mentioned in passing. It's quite clear that there was a hell of a scrap going on. IMG_0750.JPG IMG_0751 (2).JPG IMG_0752.JPG
