That's the date I was handed the keys to this WW2 Talk community. So it's been almost a year of uninterrupted Otto as your admin of this fine WW2 discussion board. Early on, many members were concerned about maintaining the direction of these forums, and I have worked hard to keep the character and quality of this fine community. In the past year not only have we moved to a more reliable server, and added a professional layout, but we've also established partnerships with several great WW2 research websites. To top it off, we've smashed through the 100,000 post barrier and left it in the dust. When I first came aboard, we had amassed over 85,000 posts, and today we have some 120,000!

We have come a very long way, and I'd truly like to thank each and every member for their contributions. I'd especially like to thank the mod & admin team of von Poop, Gotthard Heinrici, Paul Reed, and Owen. You gentlemen are the main reason this site is so professional and well run. As an admin, I keep the server going, but it is these four guys that so capably handle the day to day operation and direction of WW2 Talk.

Most importantly, I'd like to thank those WWII veterans that we talk with & about on a daily basis. After all is is for them that this place exists. :poppy:

    Bodston's Prize Winning Post

To celebrate one year of WW2Talk going in a solid direction I've gone back and tracked down the first six-figure post and decided to award a prize to the person who made it. I'd like to congratulation Bodston who made the golden post, I'll be sending him a $25 US gift certificate to Amazon.co.uk for his efforts.

    Onward & Upwards

Thanks all for your contributions and participation, I can't wait to see this place in another 12 months!

Dont think so Marcus. I think in the interests of damage limitation. Mod suits me better!

Doesn't time fly when you're having fun.

Cheers to the Members, old & new, that really make this place what it is. ;)
& to Otto, for giving us button-pushers total freedom to maintain the flavour of the site. His background work's rock solid but he never intervenes in decisions relating to the day to day.

We've certainly grown statistically, (oh the statistics!) but more importantly I reckon we're well on our way to being one of the most sensible WW2 sites on the web.

    Good stuff chaps.

(And nice one Bod, bit suspicious that, what with you being a mate of the Admin  :D )

As one of the so-called "veterans" you mention, may I add my sincere congrats to you on having stayed the course for what must have been an eventful and problematic year.

While I'm in a benevolent mood I'll also second your vote of thanks to Adam, Gotthard, Paul & Owen for their efforts in controlling what I now consider to be a very fair discussion group.

Here's to many more years !

Yes indeed, while we are in back slapping mode, Kudos to Otto for letting the site mature at its own pace. And its the members that are responsible for how the site has matured. Its a place to be proud of so thanks to everyone!!!

Yes, :D like a Christmas vote please, most helpful, or best thread, wooden spoon for who asks the most stupid questions [], most time wasted ahem logged on [members only], best avatar/signature, or a la Miss World ... evening wear - Sapper gets my vote for that already, I love his avatar.

By the way Bod, if you got that for answering one of my interminable questions I feel I should get halfers:p

Seriously though, without sounding too sycophantic, thanks to all for a great site.

    My prize arrived today!
    Thanks Otto.
I spent my Amazon token on David Fletcher's 'The British Tanks 1915-19'

It certainly looks very good and Mr Fletcher's books are always an enjoyable read.

As a relative newcomer to the site I too would like to add my congratulations to all who attend the day by day functions and keep all of us rebels on the straight and narrow - well most of the time anyway - Well Done Chaps !

Shows what I know I didn't even know this thread was on here.
I must have been on holiday back in August.
    Enjoy the book Bod.
    A tank one!
    I'd have never have guessed.

I think you were drinking tea at my house, Owen... because I don't remember this one either! Well done to Bod and hope you enjoy the book.

The real success is not anything us Mods do, it's the quality and frequency of posting from our members that have made this arguably the most important WW2 discussion forum on the Net.

Cheers Bodston! Thanks for letting us know what you got. It took quite a while to get a proper business account set up to send the funds, and as a penance I actually sent you $30 US rather than the $25. It was a small adjustment, so I doubt you caught that after the conversion. In any case that's a good buy, and I'm glad to contribute to our collective WW2 knowledge, (our WW2 tank knowledge no less!).

Again sorry for the delay, but as with most things around here it all seems to work out in the end. ;)
