Hi All Asking for a friend that has her Grandfathers medals from WW2 he was RAMC. But in the collection there appears to be an unusual badge. Can't pinpoint it but appears to be a US Unit Citation or Meritious award? Anyone any ideas as to unit and why the 2 silver stars? Thanks in Advance Wayne
I don't have them i'm afraid just know he was RAMC served across Europe including Dunkirk, D Day & crossing of the Rhine and also in North Africa Wayne
If you obtain his official service records then they will probably tell you where and when he interfaced with US forces - at a guess possibly North Africa or NW Europe - link to obtain service records - Request records of deceased service personnel These records will tell you where he was, which units he was with [possibly transferred to a US unit] and when, from these you can then work out from the War Diaries or perhaps with the help of our US sister site [http://www.ww2f.com/] what the award was etc etc TD Edit: I have asked on our sister site what the name of the award is to help further searches
Many Thanks As I said they are for a friend so not sure what she has at moment will check up with her. Appreciate your work to identify it Wayne
If it is an American award I rather think they are probably bronze stars that have become a bit worn. 2 silver stars would indicate 10 bronze awards. Service star - Wikipedia Tim
So far all I can come up with is thats its some form of unit citation - US ww2 unit citation - Google Search His service records should say which units he was with, which would obviously help narrow down the information TD
Some interesting responses from our sister site [USA based] "That is certainly not a US military-issue award. Maybe issued by a veteran's organization. It looks more like a lapel pin" "Not a US service, Army or Naval unit citation decoration" TD
I assume you mean a link to the thread - http://www.ww2f.com/threads/need-some-help-with-a-us-ww2-award.71460/ TD
Well tried TD. Do you know what the three non-British (official) medals are? Can't see them very clearly as the light has caught them, but they may give a clue. Tim
Hi Tim No I dont although reading the left one it seems to be in French as to the others ..................... TD
Thanks Richelieu, would still like to know what the bar is from the original post - hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm TD
Hi Can anyone help and identify this enameled badge found with a friends Fathers medals? Thanks in advance.
Has the look of maybe a unit citation award by the US to this mans British unit ? I could not find any exact match online using this criteria.
Was he Royal Artillery? If so could be associated with US unit citation to 25th Field Battery, RA, Oct 44.
