The 1939 reprint of the 1929 edition of the Manual of Military Law has a very brief reference to T.A. Regs 199-206 as being the various classes of discharge, but does not list them.

The narrative in the Manual at page 235 refers to the subject of regulation 207 as :

"A man of the Territorial Army may enter the Royal Navy or enlist into the Regular Army, the Militia ( Supplementary Reserve, Categories A and B only), the Royal Marines or the Royal Air Force, and, on final approval, is deemed to be discharged from the Territorial Army, but must return in good order the articles of clothing, &c., issued to him belonging to the Territorial Army. He is not, however, allowed to join the Royal Naval Reserve or the Army Reserve ( other than the Supplementary Reserve, Categories A or B.)"

Papiermache - I pass on the thanks of someone on another forum for whom I asked the question, it does indeed fit their subject, TA to regular discharge/enlistment.

Max, I am pleased to be of assistance, and thanks for telling me. One of these days I'll look at some of the files with the "Army Orders" and regulations at Kew.

I m fortunate to have a copy of the provisions for discharge contained in KIng's Regulations, and more modern Queen's Regulations, but am short of the comparable information from the TA Regulations 1936.
Would anyone have a copy of these that I could access? This is to help with translating Enlistment Book entries on the Memorial Website to 70th Infantry Brigade, which can be found at
    www.newmp.org.uk/70brigade

I should be most grateful and would be willing to make the KRs equivalent available, if that would be useful.

    Dear AB64.

Many thanks for such a prompt and useful reply. It was 204. 6. (a) that I was looking for and in many respects the detailed provision in the sub-paragraph raises more questions than it answers! The reference seems to be a "catch-all", so the man I was researching briefly - in an attempt to improve incomplete elements of his story found on the VC Websites - may not have fully completed his earlier TA engagement before leaving, otherwise the discharge paragraph would have been different. He re-enlisted two years later in a different Regiment and went on to win the VC in North Africa.

I will save this information as I have many references on the 70th Brigade Memorial Website from Army Enlistment Books 358 to this particular paragraph and have never been fully clear as to what it signified.

You have been enormously helpful - many thanks again.

Ab64 thank you so much. I found that most helpful, too. The ancestor I'm researching was discharged under army regs para 204 sub para 15 1936 and I found the relevant entries. However, it mention at the end of the sub para 15 information to see para 212, so I looked at the other pages but couldn't see para 212. I hope it wouldn't be imposing but could you kindly post that page please - or transcribe it? Doesn't really matter which. :) Thank you kindly.

Hi AB64 I’m looking at researching a chap who was discharged under para 204(ii) medically unfit followed by p8
Would p8 be page 8 of the regulations if so do you have a photo of that page at all ?
I’ve only just found this forum and it’s fascinating.
    Many thanks

Paragraph 204 starts on page 80 and runs through to page 84 so could be a page number with the 0 missed off - from the entry there is nothing obvious it could refer to, can you post an image of the entry? it may help with context
