Seeking George Henry Bayley - Royal Green Jackets 1941-42 - 2nd Bat RB / 7th Armoured

Discussion in 'Searching for Someone & Military Genealogy' started by Seeking George H Bayley, Jan 10, 2018.

  1. Looking for information for the 2nd Rifle Brigade from 1941/42 and the 7th Armoured 1942. My grandfather was killed in action in North Africa on the 11th January 1942 (service record updated February 1942) whilst on deployment with the 7th Armoured brigade. His served with the 2nd Bn. Rifle Brigade with the Royal Green Jackets before transferring to the 7th. Have had great help from the RGJ Museum to try to try to locate the 1942 War diaries and any labelled photos - but no success. Any help gratefully received!

2 RB were in 7th Motor Brigade not 7th Armd Bde which was a completely different unit.
See > Infantry Regiments Page for some background info.

They were with them for two short periods in 1941 according to my Orbat by Jolsen.

  4. Thanks for the detail - his war record states that on the 3.8.41 2/RB was attached to the Headquarters Support Group, 7th Armd. Div. - with 2nd Bn detached to support group. is this the same? Appreciate your help.

2RB were indeed part of 7th Armoured DIVISION but later they formed part of 7th Motor BRIGADE.
In your original post you said they were in 7th Armoured BRIGADE which they were not.

  7. apologies for the incorrect terminology - thanks

I made contact with two history investigators last year and asked them to look into it, they couldn't find any photographs nor update the sparse information i have found over the last few years.
