Plus the number is significant, there being Eleven.

    A very nice touch.

I bought my poppies on the first day they were being sold this year. There are many who are still being helped by the sale of poppies.

The Remembrance poppy links the past, the present and the future.

Remember those who have died in war,
Remember those who have been bereaved by war,
Remember those wounded, injured or have died in serving their country,
Remember those who are serving their country now and in the years to come.

    I like the poppies.
And I even remembered how to put them back on the mobile view... somewhat to my surprise.

Always feels right to me from the 1st onwards, though lord knows I'll not overtly decry anyone doing whatever they like with their little red flower, it's a very public symbol, but a very private one too!

Any symbolism/numerology/bullet hole appearance of the header is, I assure you, purely coincidental. Nothing more than an aesthetic choice went into it.

Give generously! (As they used to say... do they still say that?)

Poppy display, Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, Brussels:

During a recent visit to Brussels I visited the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History at Brussels. At the entrance to a special centenary exhibition about the 1914- 1918 war was a poppy display of the Royal British Legion (see attached photograph).

The poppy exhibit was given the following heading:

"Shoulder to shoulder with all who Serve".

It confirms the mission of the Royal British Legion is underpinned by 'four pillars':

    1. welfare

    2. comradeship

    3. representation

    4. Comradeship.

Its beneficiaries are at the heart of all that the British Legion does.
    ........................

The simplicity and layout of this display is as good as any I have seen and makes it clear what the R.B.L. does in the modern era and has done in the past.

The Canadian poppies are less sturdy than their British counterpart. From November 1st to the 11th, I will probably lose a dozen and will be more than happy to replace the lost ones with more coinage to the Legion poppy boxes.

The RBL has changed the header from "Shoulder to Shoulder with all who serve" to "Live On", which personally I feel is not good. I am not alone in this thinking and heartened that the older version was being used.

Very good to see the Poppies back on the site. I am at a loss to explain why I have not lost any of the flimsy Canadian ones yet. But, it is early days....

Among other things, I regard the red poppy as a symbol of Remembrance of what happened in the past, a means to help ex-servicemen and women and their families in the present and a symbol of hope for a peaceful future.
