I am trying to find out more about a plane and crew from 517 Squadron which appears to have been lost on 2nd October 1945 with the crew of 7. All are commemorated at Runnymede I know little other than 517 was a Meteorological unit flying out of South Wales Casualty details as shown on attached attached Thanks
This from....The Price of Peace - C Cummings 2 October 1945 517 Squadron Halifax III. NA248 The aircraft was on a Met sortie and was last heard of in position 46 degrees 30 North /01degrees 28 West. It failed to return to base and no trace of it was ever found. It is though possible that the aircraft suffered structural failure because after a previous sortie the crew reported a loud bang and serious vibration. Subsequent examination did not reveal any cause for the noise or vibration and the aircraft was passed as serviceable.

Hi, I’m in search of any more information on Leo, Peter Green. I’m searching on behalf of his brother William Green. I’ve noticed a quote from the book stated above. Is this something worth buying or is this the only statement mentioned in regards to the plane crash? Can anyone point me in the right direction to aid his search or any links I could follow to gain more information. Many thanks Great niece of Leo Peter Green
