According to Cole (and he's usually pretty good), the badge is from the 'North Western Army' (India) and is a castle gateway symbolic of the North-Western gateway of India, the Khyber Pass...So quite a long way from Didcot !

Did he have an India connection ?

    It's not Didcot, it's North-Western Army (India)!

In the early part of 1945 he was sent out to India, I suppose with the Royal Ordnance. Does the badge just signify that you were posted with your company in India?
