Looks like the same vehicle in most pictures so from this image is it safe to guess at a 'standard' Dark Yellow, Olive Green & Red Brown pattern? Highly speculative business from Black and white though.

Just been informed that the Germans may (I have no other reference yet) have been planning to use captured KVII's in an invasion of Malta...
The KV-2s with German cupolas were lovely ;)

Blimey, a KV-2 coming ashore on Malta would have been a sight to behold.

Pottered onto a couple more stonewall shots while looking up Phylo's Malta 2pdr Query:

Though I like the camo pattern to use on a tankmodel, can anyone explain how this wall-pattern would actually help camouflage on Malta ?
Look at all the above pictures , more plain dirt than habitats with big boulder walls...
Not even the buildings of Malta 1941 have this distinct pattern.
Not even rubble/ruins would have this effect.

Standing still, and running/driving around with this malta stonewall camo would reveal your tank/truck/helmet even faster, I believe.

Exactly, the big boulder walls that you mention.

There are many miles of stone wall on Malta and Gozo just like in the last pic posted by Owen, the camo must have been very effective as lots of equipment even down to tin hats were painted with it!

    Diane,
I think Clive will be interested in this Bofor gun.

Jonathan Ball It's a way of life.

Until the Administrator of this fine forum tweeted a photo of this today I'd never heard of stonewall camouflage.
Still learning stuff about the war. Marvellous.

And the administrator had not heard of a hope to get a Tilly out there in stonewall either.

    Cracking stuff.
I do hope they find the Matilda they're currently looking for...

You mean some folks are looking to see if a Matilda is under the earth somewhere on Malta? That would be pretty great to find...

That Matilda photo is interesting as it shows a variation in the camouflage pattern. I thought it was always just two-colour but that seems to show an darker "stone" colour arround the edges of the "stones".
