    Hello All
Can anyone tell me what this motobike my nans on please (she was a Dispatch Rider in the ATS)
All her letters had DR Skinner on them and i thought she was a doctor for a while, a bit confusing, especially as when i remember her as i was a kid she was a sister in the local hospital.
    thanks Adam

On modern vehicles, the VIN number can determine make, year, etc. Perhaps the serial number on the gas tank (?) can do the same?

Do you have a clearer picture?

Edit: Try looking for a database like this,

    Indian Motorcycle Serial Numbers Unraveled

    Hi Adam,

Your nan is sitting on a Royal Enfield WD/CO. The census number on the petrol tank is C5163524, and means that the frame number of this bike was # 21184, and that this bike was the 1357th motorcycle of the C/S1546 contract for 5000 WD/CO's. This contract was delivered to the forces from June 21st 1944 until February 8th 1945. The first half of this contract was effectively used by the forces, the second half was put into storage and sold / given (?) to the French Army shortly after the war. The French have kept these WD/CO's until halfway the 1950's. Hope this helps...

By the way, have you got any other pictures of your nan on this bike? I'm doing a major research job on the war time and early post war history of the WD Royal Enfields, and any additional information is always welcome!

    Cheers,
    Jan

    thanks Drew and Elven6
I must say Elven6 they do look nearly the same , apart from the tank (other amages of that model of indian have what looks like 3 petrol caps?), and the engine in my picture looks like its a lot smaller, maybe not even a twin cylinder?, (there is much more space in the frame, around the engine do they use other engines in that model?).
I am going to do a better scan and put it on photobucket to see if the quality is better.
    thanks Adam
