Can some clear something up for me......

It was always my understanding that the United Nations or UN (Blue Berets etc.) was set up after the Second World War to prevent further wars and in a way replaced the League of Nations which was set up after the First World War to do funnily enough- The same thing.

However I'm currently reading ATB D-Day and something that has been bugging me for a couple of weeks now is three contributors namely General George C. Marshall on page 7, General Dwight D Eisenhower on page 12 and Lieutenant General Walter Bedell Smith on page 21 refer to the United Nations.

    So my question is:

Was there another United Nations before 1945?

I'm wondering if they are reffering to the coalition of Allied forces that were fighting the Axis powers in 1944.

    Cheers
    Confused :)

Drew, As far as I know Roosevelt referred to the countries fighting the Axis as the United Nations originally. so it would not be unusual for those 3 Commanders to refer to this.
