Hi im a new member but i've had an avid facination with Worl War 2 for a long time and i live in Florida where alot of bases during world war 2 were. But the main reason i post is that my grandfather passed on a little while back and i was too young to ask many of the questions i have now. My grandfather was an engineer on a sub hunting plane in the Pacific but i dont know much about what planes they used or what squadrons he might have been attatched to. Do you guys know any information on these topics?

I cannot provide a definitive answer, but one of the mainstays of US ASW and reconnaisance patrols was the PBY "Catalina" flying boat.

However, in the Atlantic a wide range of aircraft were used, including long range B-24 Liberators, and I would expect a similar range of aircraft types in the Pacific.

Without knowing his squadron, it would be difficult to say.

Try getting hold of his records from the National Military Personnel Records Center. They have a web page. As his grandson, you should be able to get them.

Good luck with your quest, thank you for joining us, and thank you for your grandfather's service to his Country.
