I have just obtained a large 1943 dated British Army Ammunition box. The problem is that it is rusty.

Anyone know the best/easiest/cheapest way to remove rust from this?

    Hi,bepposappone,

Depends on how bad the rust is and how far it has penetrated the metal, you can buy rust inhibitors for repairing car bodywork etc, first of all give it a good rub down with imery paper use a heavy gauge to start with then a lighter gauge of paper, then apply the inhibitor which will stop any further deterioration, can be bought at any auto spares shops.good luck,

Just thought I would mention that they were selling them in Beltring last year for £1 each. They will probably be there again this year.

    Hi Allen

Thanks for your reply. The answer you give is pretty much the one I expected, and seems a lot of work to me. I had hoped that someone would mention some new paint on/wash off "miracle" product, and save me a lot of work!

Out of interest the box is only lightly rusted, looks as if it has been stored in a damp outbuilding or garage rather than left out in the rain. I wonder how people clean up battlefield relics?

    Tom.
    Thanks Tom

A pound sounds good to me, only problem is that it would cost a lot more than that to get down to Kent from here.

Maybe I should look in the local Army Surplus shops, once I find out where they are!
