Growing up in the 80s & 90s, I was used to seeing pictures of war-torn places around the globe on TV, but even though I had seen all the history books at school, it was very hard to associate those kinds of images with the England I knew. I mean, riding my BMX around streets like these, or the countryside of north Kent, I could not imagine swarms of bombers over south London or dog-fights above the sleepy countryside of Shoreham or Biggin Hill. Its very hard for me to get my head around.
