Georgia - there is a size limit to files being uploaded - I think its 2 Mb, that may be the problem you are encountering

Thanks for your reply and info.

I look forward to seeing the photos if you manage to get them uploaded. If you still have trouble I am happy to give you my email address as it might be easier to send direct.

I am a member of a charity whose aim is to put a Typhoon back in the air by the 80th D-Day aniversery as a flying memorial to all Typhoon pilots and ground crew. The panel from your fathers plane will be used to provide information for the rebuild. It will then be placed in the heritage centre we propose to build as part of the project as a permanent display with you grandfathers story. More details of the project can be seen at www.hawkertyphoon.com

Sorry I did not reply to your question about the panel.

It is now in the UK at our charities base. I will upload some photos later but need to reduce the size of 2mb is the max.

I stumbled across it in a shop during my visit to Normandy last week.

Photos of panel below as promised.

This is not your grandfathers plane but demonstrates where the panel was fitted on the plane. It’s the panel just in front of the windscreen that looks like it’s come loose. It covers the oil tank.

This is the serial No MN697 that has been stencilled on the inside of the panel that identified it as from your grandfathers plane

The hole for the oil filler cap can be seen on this side.

Will your Aunt be travelling to the UK when she travels? If she is I would be happy to meet her and show the panel at our base. This is in Uckfield East Sussex just south of London Gatwick Airport.

Andy - this is a public forum watched over by bots etc so I would suggest you change the @ symbol above to AT, or even better if you use the conversation option to send private details to other members, it helps protect yourself

Hi there Andrew and Georgia, Chrishave ... I just joined this site and I’m so excited to read many things I didn’t previously know about my dad George Martin -I have a sense of great and overwhelming excitement that I may be able to actually touch the panel of the typhoon which took my father into the day-to-day conflict. Thank you Andy for your interest to preserve the memory and bravery of the hundreds of thousands of people, including my dad, that gave it their all to give us freedom.
